Mission
In line with Millennium Development goals of eradicating poverty, providing primary education for all and gender equality, the project aims to give access to quality education for girls from Pune District in order to break the cycle of poverty and poor primary education.
Vision
Through the hostel’s activities, 80 girls each year from Pune District’s most disadvantaged communities will gain better livelihood opportunities, enabling choices about higher education or employment, further training, and increased confidence to participate in society.
The intended outcome of work is that each year of the project, 80 students from Pune District
- will have increased educational achievements.
- will have improved their physical and emotional wellbeing so that they demonstrate increased self-respect and sense of identity.
- will be demonstrating teamwork and leadership skills, through participation in the organization of the hostel. They will have formed ethical views and opinions about society and be confident when talking to peers and adults.
- will be actively engaged in awareness-raising activities organized by the hostel and will be demonstrating active support of students’ educational and personal development.
Bahujan Hitai Girls Hostel Vishrantwadi was established in the year 1987. Initially, the hostel was started with only 24 girls. Since the institution’s own building was completed in 1991, every year 85 girls are leading successful lives in the world by benefiting from the services of free education, accommodation and food. The objective of the project is to serve the girls from 5th to 10th standard from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Pune and surrounding districts. In the last 35 years the hostel has provided facilities for accommodation, education health and all round development to more than 2490 students. Many students have gone on to very successful careers in the government and private sectors. The hostel is registered by the Trailokya Buddhist Mahasang Sahih Gana (TBMSG) Trust Pune.
1988-1999
- In 1988, the founder of the organization Bhante Urgen Sanghrakshit visited the hostel for the first time.
- The building owned by the institution was completed on June 1990 and was inaugurated on Friday 8th February 1991 by the then Chief Minister Sharad Raoji Pawar maharashtra The following were the chief guests of the program. Ma Ramdas Athawale Social Welfare Minister Maharashtra, Hon. Dadasaheb Rupwate President Employment Guarantee Council maharashtra ,E K Prof. In the presence of NS Kamble Labor Minister MR, Hon. Dhammachari Lokamitra Sanstha was completed under the chairmanship of founder Maharashtra Sharad Pawar Saheb had contributed 5 lakhs for the school development of girls.
- Bahujan Hitai Hostel started from RD stop Dighi Vishrantwadi in Rent’s building. Initially there were only 24 students. In 1991, the hostel got approval from Samaj Kalyan Pune for 78 girls. Since then till now 78 girls have been approved for social welfare. But the hostel is providing free education and accommodation to 85 girls every year.
- In 1993, the first batch of 10 girls from the hostel appeared for the 10th board examination and all the girls passed in the second class, Karuna Suryanvashi was the first from the hostel with 73% marks.
1999-2009
- Bahujan hitay made a detailed Child Protection Policy to safeguard the interest of children as enumerated in the document.
- Bahujan hitay gave training for all staff child protection and safeguarding training.
2009-2019
- Bahujna Hitaya Girls’ Hostel, Vishratwadi was financially supported by Social Welfare Department of Maharashtra and Karuna Trust UK.
- In earlier years the hostel received 100% rolling funding from the Karuna Trust based on the budget presented every year.
- Since 2010, the hostel has received funding on a 3-year project-based cycle.
- From 2014, the period of grant funding to the project from the Karon Trust was extended to 4 years. In this, 50% of the total budget for running the project was received from Karuna Trust, 25% to Samajkalyan Kadum, while the remaining 25% was deposited at the local level and the project was run. As per the policy of Karuna Trust 2021-22 the fund from Karuna Trust has closed. Therefore, at present the project is being run by collecting funds from local funds.
- The project has receiving funds three time in 10 years from Tata consultancy Services. The TCS has been also supporting the project through training base activities for staff and students. During past ten years the project approached 7 new companies for CSR. Out of them 6 companies supported the project through either cash, in-kind or services.
2019-24
- A total of 197 board exams were conducted from 2010-11 to 2024.
- All the girls passed with good marks.
- In PMC (Pune Mahanager corporation) promotes those children gets higher percentage in10th STD in all over Pune.
- Last 15 years above 85% Mark our 15 girls’ success, and each girls got Rs. 52000/- scholarship And above 75% Mark 36 girls were success to getting each Rs. 15000 scholarships.
- Since the start of the pandemic in India in March 2020, Bahujan Hitay girls’ hostel, through its various initiatives, has distributed over 2,500 of grocery kits totaling that have reached over ,4930 beneficiaries residing in the most marginalized communities in Pune, Satara, Latur, thane.
- The Organization has also provided mental health support to over 4,400 people to overcome stress, anxiety and depression. Hunger crisis and they could not able to arrange their own daily livelihood because of all over.
